Inspire a Love of Books in Our Spanish-Speaking Students

Help me give my students more Spanish titles all students love (like "Diary of a Wimpy Kid"). We have an amazing dual-language program at our elementary school, but our Spanish-Language collection doesn't meet the needs of our students.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are very fortunate at School #33 to have an amazing Spanish/English Dual Language program. Spanish is the first language of many of our students, and so they are most comfortable reading in Spanish. They would love to access similar books that their English-dominant peers have access to. Many love "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," "Narwhal and Jelly", and "Elephant and Piggie," for example. Additionally, access to these books will help our English-dominant, Spanish learners as well, by providing Spanish-language books they are very familiar with.

Literacy in any language is a key to success in the future, and if we have books kids want to take out, we will have kids who WANT to read.

Please help us provide those books. Unfortunately, because of how the school year works in New York, and my book budget restrictions, my small budget is spent by early January and can't nearly keep up with the amount of new, quality children's books published every year. Without help, it would certainly take many years for us to try to order popular past series like I'm mostly doing here.

I heartily thank you in advance for helping us provide these resources that will inspire a love of reading in our students.
