This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To increase student focus and decrease distractions, I would like to begin implementing mindfulness corners in each classroom. A mindfulness corner is a comfortable section of the classroom that a student can choose to sit in to help them relax, re-energize, or refocus after sitting in hard chairs all day.

The two chairs I am requesting will be placed in 2 different classrooms for teachers to pilot the mindfulness corner.

Teachers will decorate the space so that it looks more comforting(think earth tones, lights, etc.) and different from the rest of the classroom.

My students are very dedicated to learning as they are new to the country and have a lot to learn in a short amount of time---new cultures, languages, and content. Most students are in school from 8:30-5:30 each day while some are there as early as 7:30 to get all the extra attention they can get. They deserve to be comfortable and have access to such spaces throughout the day when they want it.
