My Project

As much as we would love students to be solely intrinsically motivated, some students need some external incentives that they can actually have. This project was created to help support my classroom with incentives for students who are working hard in our classroom family.

Elementary students love earning small toys and candy for doing a good job.

The fidget toys will be used to replenish my treasure box. Students earn pom-pom balls throughout the day on a chart for following directions the first time. Sometimes, when I only see one or two students doing what is asked, I sent them to treasure box right then. I reward with Skittles throughout the day if they are focused on their reading, writing, and math. When students know I have these items, it helps motivate them to complete work instead of distracting others. I also love to reward with candy at the end of the day as they are leaving, after packing up and cleaning up.

As much as I would love students to do exactly what they should each day without having to provide incentives, well....that is just not real life. Elementary students enjoy small treats just like anyone else. I think it makes learning a little more fun and exciting. If you could help with my project, I would be very grateful.
