Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A vibrant artistic practice requires great questions to explore, great effort to refine, and great tools to utilize. As a Boston school of roughly 600 students, having multiple learning programs such as ABA and a Developmental Day Program for students with moderate-to-severe disabilities, our learners have incredibly diverse needs that must be tended to for their academic achievement.

Please support me in my mission to facilitate the artistic journey of our young artists by giving them the scissors that they deserve!

In our classroom, traditional scissors often fall short in meeting our diverse needs. Middle schoolers with larger hands struggle to use 'kid-sized' scissors, and some of our students may not have developed the grip strength necessary to utilize typical scissors. For left-handed artists, the challenge is even greater, as their needs are often overlooked and 'ambidextrous' scissors do not allow them to see where they're cutting.

Being an arts educator dedicated to equity in the classroom, and proudly left-handed myself, I know firsthand the importance of providing tools that are specifically tailored to each student's needs. With your support, we're turning challenges into opportunities! Through this project, we'll provide a range of scissors, each tailored to fit our artists' needs. From ergonomically designed scissors for larger hands, with equitable options for our left-handed artists, to fully adaptive scissors, every student will have tools that inspire confidence and creativity.

Together, we will create an inclusive space where every student feels valued and supported. By celebrating diversity, we're nurturing a classroom where every artist can thrive. Join us as we cut through barriers and unlock the potential of every student, one snip at a time!
