This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is inspired by the television show, “Domino Masters.” In this show, teams work toward creating a theme based domino topple that includes chain reactions. The show requires the team member to be imaginative, creative, and use their STEM background to meet the challenge.

I believe that this year more than ever, students need learning opportunities that require them to listen to each other and work together on a rigorous project.

I am proposing a grant to cover materials purchase for the “Topple Time” engineering project that include domino toppling kits and books. I am excited at the opportunity for my students to develop their design and engineering skills through domino building. In preparation, throughout the year, I have engaged my students with the design and engineering process of asking, imagining, planning, creating, and improving. The topple time project will provide them an opportunity in which they can develop mental stamina and perseverance through challenges. In the topple time project, students will work collaboratively to create a domino topple sculpture that incorporates chain reaction elements. They will have to work within the criteria and constraints of the topple reaction to plan a functional design. It is my hope that this project will inspire the students to access their imaginations and use positive peer interactions.
