This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The curiosity of children is endless. Imagine wanting to know more about the world around you so you pick up a book to learn... and discover you can't read it. I want to provide engaging interesting non-fiction reading materials to increase comprehension and knowledge.

My students are 3rd and 4th graders over 6 classrooms at a suburban elementary school.

Most students are from a diverse population comprised of bilingual, special education, and English Language Learners. These students are hungry to learn about the world around them. Many come from limited means and do not frequent museums or the library to learn about history, the world and the universe. Therefore, I want to make this information available to them in a way that is easy for them to understand.

My Project

These resources will provide students of all reading levels and backgrounds with access to engaging materials that they can explore and read about independently, with a partner, or in small groups. Students will be building background knowledge, reading skills, and comprehension while learning about heroes from the past, lands near and far, and inspiring them to be the heroes of the future.

These materials will be used in a variety of ways across several classrooms for years to come.

Students will become smarter, more independent, and build their confidence. No longer will they have be defeated before they even begin to read. They can read at their own level successfully and LEARN!
