I teach Kindergarten through fourth grade students in a rural/suburban district a few miles outside of Erie city. Currently there are about 500 students enrolled in our elementary school. Our district encompasses over 140 square miles.
The mantra of our district is "student center - future focused".
I see students of all abilities in my classroom. Students are integrated as much as possible in regular education.
Our students are involved in a variety of clubs and activities including soccer club, growing garden club, fuel up to play 60, walking club, and more. The district is the hub of our community.
My Project
My students in Kindergarten and First grade experience a blend of literacy and STEM projects in our STEAM classes. I originally got 3 sets in the fall of 2016. You can see some of my students working with the original set of kits in my blog post. http://elementarylibrary2010.blogspot.com/2016/10/first-4-weeks.html
Students love to build projects based on a fairy or folk tale.
During the first month of school, I gather Kindergarten students to the story steps area. We read a fairy tale story, then we complete a STEM project based on the story. The pre-created kits/projects by Lakeshore are a great way to get new school age students to be successful in STEAM.
The addition of three new fairy tale kits will allow me to add three new lessons to the rotation. In addition, I know that my first three kits were super popular, (Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and The Three Little Pigs) so I want to add six more kits to my STEAM collection! Donors choose will allow me to add three fairy tales and three folk tales STEAM kits to my curriculum materials.
