We are a classroom of 21 first graders in rural northeastern Colorado. Many of my students come from low-income families and families that struggle to make ends meet. Our school is a Title 1 school with more than half of the students receiving free or reduced price lunch.
We are a family; everyone knows everyone, and everyone has something to contribute!
My students love technology but many lack access at home, and being a smaller school district, we often don't have access to the technology of larger districts. I would love to be able to open the door of technology to my students to prepare them for success in the 21st century!
My Project
My students need STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) materials to help them explore the technological world! I am asking for six Bee-Bots in order to have students work as teams and in small groups.
STEM thinking creates links between all domains, it encourages questions, it requires persistence, and it demands exploration!
These Bee-Bots will change the way my kids think about the world, they will alter the way my children can explore and broaden their horizons. We will use our Bee-Bots across all academic domains.
One of the first projects I plan to have the kids create is a story retelling map using the Bee-Bot as a tour guide. With access to STEM materials, such as Bee-Bots, my students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge in a way that will help them in the future. Bee-Bots allow students to practice basic coding, a critical 21st-century skill. Coding teaches so many important skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and risk-taking. Bee-Bots are a wonderful way to introduce young children to the world of coding.
