My students need art supplies to create an 'out of this world' display for our school's Festival of Arts event which will showcase their knowledge of astronomy.
George Washington Carver once said, "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom." Opening that door of freedom for our students is the main priority at our school. Our school is home to all of the city's 5th/6th graders and is located in a very diverse, low-income community. The needs and abilities of our students vary greatly. Most of the students that attend the school receive free or reduced-price lunch, as well as any additional support necessary throughout the day.
My students are enthusiastic 6th graders with growing minds.
Our school provides a safe environment for the students to learn and grow. We strive to keep our students engaged in learning and help them be as successful as possible despite the struggles they may face outside of school.
My Project
As a school, we are always looking for ways to increase student and parent engagement. One after-school event we put on to promote this engagement is 'Festival of Arts'. This event is a chance for every student to showcase their artistic abilities while demonstrating knowledge of curriculum based content. Every hallway in our school is decorated floor to ceiling to display a themed exhibit. All students that show up the night of the event receive a passport and need to visit all of the exhibits throughout the school. Students are asked to bring their families and friends to show pride in their hard work. In the past, we have had upwards of 1,000 families and friends walk through our decorated hallways and participate in our students' educational experiences. This year we would like to increase that number of participants, and getting more supplies to make out hallways completely transformed would be very helpful
The donations for this project will help us create an "out-of-this-world" art display to showcase reading and writing skills, as well as our studies in astronomy.
Helping us make our vision come to life would make such a difference to my students. This would get more parents involved in their child's education, and my students will be granted the opportunity to show great pride in their hard work. This will be a great chance for our students to really reach for the stars!
