My students need a class set of The Giver to read together.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Pitts's classroom raised $271

My Students
My students are sixth graders, attending an intermediate school, in Connecticut. They come from all areas of town and are mostly from an urban setting. Most of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. In our district, funding is extremely limited, and access to resources are almost non-existent. I want my classroom to be a place where my students can comfortably learn, in a safe and exciting environment, but I also want to give them every opportunity possible to help them succeed.
My Project
A large portion of my students are readers. They love to read and are always looking for new books. Others are not hooked yet. After finishing a read aloud, earlier this year, I mentioned doing literature circles in our class. The students were excited. Now all I need are the books!
By having a class set of The Giver, my higher students will be able to read in their groups with more independence, and my struggling readers will have the opportunity to work with more assistance, so they can develop vocabulary and comprehension skills.
By providing us with a class set of the book, The Giver, my students will be able to explore dystopian society on their level. This book will challenge them to think about the world around us and the choices we make. Thank you for considering our project.
