This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I truly believe that we have some of the most kind, funny, and caring students on the planet. The students at our school are amazing! They come to school every day with great attitudes and a drive to learn, regardless of their home situations.

Unfortunately, my students have many obstacles in their young lives like their socioeconomic status (all our students qualify for free lunch), their living area, the fact that over 90% of our students are ESL, and the list goes on and on.

Our students overcome these challenges on a daily basis. They come to school, a safe, warm place, ready, excited, and willing to learn. They look up to us and expect great things just as we expect great things of them. I am hoping to be afforded the opportunity to meet my students' most basic needs so they can fully focus on their education.

My students have had very few experiences in their lives and have very few resources available to them outside of school, and that is why I am hoping that you will provide them this opportunity to utilize these resources that they may never otherwise be able to use.

My Project

These Chromebooks would completely change the way our science classroom runs! Currently, it is very difficult for the students and I to get our hands on the appropriate technology needed for the different lessons.

This year my co-teacher and I have completely overhauled our science curriculum in order to make it more interesting, interactive, and fun for our students.

One to two times a week, we are utilizing Interactive Science Labs. In these labs, there are four input and four output stations that the students cycle through.

One of the input stations is called "Watch it." At this station, the students watch various videos that cover the content. As mentioned before, it is difficult to get our hands on the limited technology at our school and, therefore, makes it impossible to properly allow the students to participate in the labs. It is also difficult for the students to do any research as there are no or very few classroom computers available in the rooms. We need these Chromebooks to completely implement what we know to be best for our students.

Thank you so much!
