Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Currently, due to Hurricane Harvey the school I teach at flooded. This caused my school to have to be split between the two other elementary campuses for about a month until the district is able to bring in portable buildings for our school. The expected remediation and renovation time is approximately six months. My school received a few feet of water in it, destroying anything that was on or near the floor.
Hurricane/Tropical storm Harvey's aftermath was devastating to our community and elementary school.
My classroom consists of between twenty-two to twenty-five, five to seven year old, first-grade students who come from different walks of life.
My Project
Due to the unexpected flooding that occurred at my school, many of our classroom necessities were lost. I am currently sharing a classroom (science lab) with another teacher right now, while our district prepares portable buildings for our elementary school.
As I am going through the process of preparing my classroom for the portable building that my class will be housed in for the remainder of the year, I have realized that many of some of the necessary teaching items that are needed, we no longer have.
Necessary items such as teacher and student storage, writing tools, learning games and small group seating, will only help to enhance student learning and organization in the class.
