The Beauty of Science: Understanding Scientific Principles Through Art!
My students need 3D pen set by 3Doodler. It is a classroom bundle with twelve 3D pens and accompanying resources. I have more than twelve students in my classroom, therefore, they will be sharing the pens.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a title 1 school in NYC. My classroom is composed of students that come from a broad range of backgrounds. The one thing they all have in common is a desire to go to college and become successful individuals. I have noticed that the majority of my students fail to see the beauty in science which I attribute to the lack of exposure they've had on the field, something I plan to change.
My students are bright, eager, and passionate about what they do.
They are creative, innovative, and inspirational. They motivate me every day to come up with new ideas to challenge them and ignite their love of learning. Despite the difficulties they endure in their lives they are optimistic of what the future can bring.
My Project
Students often fail to see the big picture when it comes to scientific principles. They become lost in the myriad of words and ideas. They are consumed with content specific knowledge which prevents them from seeing the relationship between these ideas and how beautifully they correlate.
Science is a tapestry of ideas, allowing students to model these ideas by creating art will allow them to take a step back and focus on the overarching concepts in science.
It will enable them to see the beauty in science and understand the content at a deeper level while also helping them develop the skills they need to be successful. Modeling scientific principles helps foster creativity, wonderment, curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving skills which are all qualities that helped develop the scientific principles that we have today.
Students will use the 3D pens to create models of important molecules involved in biochemical processes. They will model structures such as DNA, RNA, enzymes, among others. They will manipulate these models to demonstrate how the structure of molecules impacts their function. Finally, they will present their models and share how using art and creativity allowed them to understand and/or visualize the concept more efficiently.
