Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a dynamic mix of different personalities and backgrounds! As a Title I campus with almost 70% of our culturally diverse students economically disadvantaged, we attempt to challenge our students and give them every opportunity to grow as leaders and become good citizens and lifelong learners.

Our mission is to inspire and challenge our students to succeed in our rapidly changing world.

My students are excited to learn about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING! They notice and wonder about the world around them, ask tons and tons of questions, and exchange and explore the most eccentric ideas! You just have to love them!

My Project

My students need opportunities to experience technology, and not just by using computers and digital devices in the classroom as an end-user, but by using technology as a creator of innovative real-world solutions.

Robotics allows students to challenge themselves by transforming creative, eccentric ideas into reality.

With the Lego EV3 Robot Core Set, my students will have the opportunity to learn programming skills and collaborate with other students to accomplish a mission and, ultimately, compete in their 1st First Lego League Challenge. The challenge consists of 3 parts: FLLs Core Values, the Robot Game, and the Project.

Students will learn how to work within a team by collaborating with one another, demonstrating FLLs Core Values, planning and programming their robot, and to planning, researching, and presenting their project. They will have to identify a problem in the community, brainstorm a solution, and present their research. They will get valuable experience in public speaking when they present this research to the judges during competition. They will gain self-confidence, maturity, and problem-solving skills that will help them through life.

I hope that this experience will inspire my students and future students to pursue their interests in the sciences, especially robotics and computer science.
