My Students

Our students are here for a second chance. They have been unable to succeed in their original high school and have enrolled with us to receive the individual attention and alternative forms of education we have to offer. Most of them are coming from homes in poverty, many are homeless and all are working hard to get through each day. They haven't quit. They place importance on their education and need help surmounting their numerous hurdles in order to succeed.

My Project

I have started our district's first Mindfulness Room to help our students develop self-regulatory skills. Every classroom would benefit from mindfulness practices in the course of their regular day and staff would better understand how to utilize the space I am offering if they had similar training.

Our students are in crisis mode and they need all of the compassion and help that we can offer.

Our teachers are under-valued and they need all the tools they can get to be able to give students all that they need. This is a wonderful curriculum that will benefit our school culture.
