Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are inquisitive individuals. They love asking questions, designing experiments, and exploring the world around them. All of my students participated in the school science fair and one of my students won first place. Our school is focused on giving every student a fair chance, but all of my students do not share the same background or language, which can make it difficult to give my all my students the chance they deserve. My students are from Africa, the Middle east, and Asia.

Since my students are not from the same background and do not speak the same language it is important for me to provide universal learning so that all of my students are successful.

My Project

In 6th grade science, we will be starting the exciting topic of animals! Students will learn how animals eat, live, their anatomy, and adapt to their environments. We will explore various animals’ anatomy by analyzing the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates. I have noticed that students struggle with understanding how some animals can be vertebrates, such as snakes (because they are flexible animals) and fish (because they are used to eating fish fillets, which do not contain fish skeleton).

The donations from this project will help my students study invertebrate and vertebrate models and understand the complexity of animals' differences and how these differences are characteristic of their environment.

Although my students come to school every day excited about analyzing data, making observations, asking questions and in general loving science, they struggle with bringing daily school supplies. My students live in high poverty areas, and sometimes pencil and paper are not at the top of the list of resources for struggling families. Your donations will not only help with lab activities, but will also help with supplying our future with the daily materials they need for school.
