Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students are in 7th-12th grade and work hard to hone their musical skills given the equipment the school is able to provide. Over the past few years, we have been able to recruit more members for the concert band increasing our numbers from 6 musicians to 49. We are in need of uniforms for our concerts and contests, chairs and stands for the classroom, and quality instruments for the students. We are excited for this year's upcoming performances and learning opportunities.
My Project
Currently, students are sharing music stands and fighting with broken stands to hold music during rehearsals. Trumpet players are using old mouthpieces that are meant for beginners and we are unable to use some instruments because there are not enough mouthpieces. These new stands will allow our band to grow and allow current members to rehearse without the frustration of broken stands that wobble and dump music on the floor.
New trumpet mouthpieces will allow trumpet players to expand their range and better their tone as they grow out of the beginner mouthpieces.
It will allow the beginning band members to use the trumpets that currently do not have mouthpieces.
