I teach Chemistry to Juniors and Seniors in high school. Most of the students plan to pursue further education after high school. My school is rather small but rapidly-growing. We are located in a growing coastal community with a small tax base. Our enrollment is increasing rapidly.

Due to our rapid growth, it is financially difficult to keep up with the supplies needed for the number of students we have. Since a majority of these students plan to attend college, I feel the need to provide as many learning experiences as possible for them. When students are excited about learning, they learn more.

The demonstrations with potassium and sodium are used to teach several lessons about the periodic table and the properties of metals. Students benefit from a basic understanding of the arrangement of the periodic table, and this understanding helps them learn more about chemical properties and reactions.

Your contribution will be remembered by these students for years to come. My students always anticipate the memorable experiences in which something visible and vivid happens. Not only will your contribution make chemistry exciting, it will make an imprint on their learning.
