I am wanting to implement a teaching strategy called CORI (Concept Oriented Reading Instruction). CORI is designed to teach children reading comprehension through the integration of science and reading. Its primary aim is to increase the reading comprehension of students in grades 3 to 5 by increasing their reading engagement. The only problem is A LOT of quality books are needed. These books will be used in small groups where students will be applying important reading strategies that support their reading, increase their motivation, and give them scientific knowledge. The books I chose are interesting, and accessible for a variety of readers in my classroom. I truly believe that if I am able to implement CORI my students will be more involved in their learning and excited about reading.
