Did you know that once kids learn to read, they then read to learn? My aim is to give my kids new and engaging books in our classroom library. My newcomers will be able to read a few bilingual books in their native language to see how it matches up next to English. I've picked out bilingual books in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic- the most popular languages at our school. The non-fiction packs of books will become research projects and presentations. Kids will work on reading to find information, writing facts, and oral language when they present. I can't wait to use the magnetic teacher charts and magnetic lined paper. My students need lots of guidance with writing, especially organization of their writing. I think the charts will be perfect and they will be the same each time. I've been drawing my own charts/lined paper for years (Picture crooked lines, trying to squeeze information into Venn Diagram circles because I didn't draw it big enough, etc)!!
