Life in 2021 has become different from anything we have known. Remote learning, truly remote anything, has become common. Students need more than just filling in the blanks online. They need engaging and interactive content. Many school districts, teachers, students, and parents are still struggling to make things work in order to foster learning outside the classroom. I want my students to succeed... by learning outside of the box. I am requesting an iPad with pencil to aid in the smooth transition to remote learning and an Osmo kit for STEM activities. As a 4th grade math and social science teacher, I teach both in-person and remote learners daily. Some of these students fluctuate between both. Since my students do not always have reliable technology, having an iPad would greatly help in providing live and recorded lessons for my classes. I will be able to post and email videos to students and parents who cannot access it through the Schoology platform we use. Gaining an iPad and Osmo kit will allow me to utilize these materials in both a whole group and small group setting, sometimes simultaneously, to connect with students outside of the box. I can also use them to facilitate direct instruction to students, especially those in need of additional support. When we return fully to the classroom, these items will be used for centers during our STEM Fridays. Last year, I developed weekly STEM challenges for our entire 4th grade team. Additionally, I would use my project-based learning training to develop projects through various apps and content available for use on the iPad.
