My students have been fortunate in that they have been granted the opportunity to access and utilize a full kitchen as a way of developing functional living skills and potential career/vocational skills. However, at this point I have had to reach into my own personal funds and borrow supplies in order to give students some basic supplies that they need in order to learn (not including the food ingredients that are required). My students deserve and would greatly appreciate the basic supplies needed in order for them to practice and develop the skills that will assist them in becoming independent young adults! In this cooking class that I have developed, students learn how to safely operate different tools and appliances used for cooking, baking, and food preparation. Following healthy recipes and cooking instructions is also instrumental in developing basic literacy and math skills, which is a crucial area of need for my students with learning barriers. Additionally, they get to experience the reward of knowing that they can play a larger role in supporting themselves and enjoying the product of their own labor! Thank you for your support in considering any kind of contribution to this project and my students.
