I am a firm believer of keeping the focus on what is most important: the students. Higher engagement and motivation in learning is what all teachers desire. In order to accomplish this, teachers must be willing to adapt right along with our students in our classrooms. As an educator, I must ensure my students will be ready for life's adventures. Kids sitting in rows of desks all day does not prepare them for our fast-paced world today. Research has found that flexible seating improves overall learning. For those who do not know, flexible seating allows students to choose to sit where they feel is best for them and provides the students with a wide-variety of seating options. From a study completed by the ECU, flexible seating "increased motivation and engagement, created a better oxygen flow to the brain, improved core strength, overall performance, health, and behavior" (Mahar, Matthew T., et al. 2006. Effects of a Classroom-Based Program on Physical Activity and On-Task Behavior). Seating plays a huge role in determining how focused my students will be while I teach. With your help, I will be able to incorporate flexible seating options for my students, which will enhance their focus and overall performance in school. I greatly appreciate your interest in my classroom and thank you for your support in creating a twenty-first century learning experience for my Kinders!
