In a PreK classroom, having clearly defined centers and a structured room arrangement is one of the foundations for success in early learning. The rug that I had in my room for years recently got ruined and was worn and abused with all kinds of accidents. This just happened to be one of the main rugs for defining my centers and having the required quantity of softness as defined by our program guidelines. I am specifically trying to obtain a solid colored rug because the one that was given to us is extremely busy print and pattern-wise. This is a problem due to over stimulation of the brain. The goal is to create the best environment with the right materials not just check off boxes. Having a new rug will help our students have the classroom environment that is needed for optimal development and learning.
