I teach some of the most ambitious students at the largest high school in the district. While the school is the largest, it also has some of the worst resources (most of the others are magnet schools). My students are growing up in a world in which technology is at the forefront, and yet at my school, the students are asked to learn in the same way that students learned 30 years ago: in front of a board (albeit dry erase and not chalk). My students thrive on the use of technology and are constantly finding new ways in which the school-forbidden cellphone could be used to engage students better. These students are inspiringly creative and want to learn. They are most likely college-bound (not a given at my school), as evidenced by their hard work and determination to learn within my incredibly rigorous class.
