These books are for four different parts of the classroom. The individual books are for our classroom library for students to choose their own independent reading. Interesting and varied choices give students an opportunity to find a book to connect with, which influences their life-long reading. Students are so excited to read new books! The books that are in sets of six will be used for book clubs, where a group of students will read the same book for discussion purposes. This will create dialogue about a range of topics that will go beyond reading instruction, overflowing into overcoming challenges in our own lives, developing empathy for others, and displaying kindness in the real world. Before students are ready to contemplate these ideas on their own or with other students, we will develop them together as a class through picture books. These beautifully illustrated examples will be essential for lessons. The class set of the novel is for our final novel study of the year. Bud's journey to find his father is both funny and heartbreaking, and the students have enjoyed the reading every year. It would be valuable to have students read along with me. By providing these books for my students, you will be giving them a greater variety of choice that will allow them to read about characters that are like them or about situations from which they can learn. Thank you for considering to support our students to be readers and achievers!
