My students are gifted. Our academy is in an urban neighborhood, and the students have to travel up to one hour to and from school. They come from many cultures, and for many of them English is a second language. They need to be shown that their writing is very successful. Above all, they are curious and love to learn. They are loving and always ready to help their peers. Many of my students act as the adult in the house because no one else speaks English. They even come on Report Card night and tell their parents when there is a problem. I think this is very impressive. This year we are teaching a group of at-risk students.
