COVID-19 has significantly impacted our students at the junior high level as they have missed out on developmental milestones in their social development. For many of our students, their emotional wellness and maturity levels have seen a decrease; our students are between the ages of 11 to 15 yet, their emotional and mental status does not align with past generations’ average level of maturity. We want to support our students at their current level and to do so, we must go back to the basics. We must support our students by teaching and reteaching our expectations as we do not know what supports they may have at home. Our community has some resources available for families but if the family is not connected to these resources for whatever reason, it is not fair for our students to get the brunt of their parents' decision. Our students deserve the right to hygiene items, education on how to care for themselves, and the feeling that they belong.
