Often I hear my students complain about reading, not being able to imagine the characters, not understanding what's going on, or just plain old not being interested in the books they have. I believe this is due to the types of books we have in my classroom or lack of books that represent the students in my classroom. I believe that with books that have characters that look like my babies and stories that they can relate to, they will be able to get lost in a book or a few books, if I'm lucky. I aim to bring about a love of reading and understanding of what my students are reading through getting books that look and sound like them. Please help me in this journey to a love of books with my students.
