Though the high school that Banks Middle School feeds into has had a band for decades, Banks has never had a band program. This year, I was hired to start one. The school is currently building a new building, which will include BMS's first-ever band room. For now, we're meeting in a portable building behind the school, along with other classes while the construction gets finished. I was able to recruit 7th and 8th grade for beginning band this year, and next year we will expand it down to 5th and 6th. I teach some awesome kids, and I can't wait to see what they do over the years!
