Welcome to 2nd Grade in Spencerport, NY. I have a classroom full of excited readers and writers! I always find in the beginning of the year they are hesitant with writing. We spend a lot of time reading fiction books and discussing the craft of an author. Why did the author write the book? What did the author do that made you want to continue reading? Why did the author add dialogue at certain points in the story? Once they are exposed to looking at an author as a teacher, they begin to add what they discover into their own writing. Hence, the hesitation is gone and they begin to see themselves as authors. My goal is to create the same excitement with nonfiction writing. In order to create this excitement, I need to provide access to the texts that we can examine.
