I am an English teacher at David Douglas High School in Portland, Oregon. My units are always full of creative projects and critical thinking. I like to use humor and fun in the classroom in order to get students engaged. Because so many students have below grade reading levels, I really try to make literature units as helpful and entertaining as possible. If I can get students to enjoy what they're reading, they're a lot more likely to improve their reading skills. Unfortunately, all the projects and fun I inject into the curriculum, and my school has no supply budget. They expect us teachers to pay for the supplies ourselves, and I cannot afford to do that. That's why I've decided to try out DonorsChoose.org .
