Last year my group of students did not understand that the scrambled eggs that they've eaten for breakfast could have become real chickens! That's when it dawned on me that the students in this area live near farms but are not in contact with the farms or ranches. My students have never seen the process of an egg turning into a chick! This would be such an empowering STEAM activity to see the whole life cycle unravel right in front of their eyes. We will require an egg incubator with an automatic egg turner. Since we will be using fertilized eggs from a local ranch, we will be needing an egg candler to see which eggs are fertilized and which ones are not. We would also like a book to do research as we are doing the project and to make sure we are doing it correctly. Lastly, when our eggs hatch (fingers crossed), we will need feeders for the chick crumbles and a lamp with a light bulb to keep those little fluff balls warm.
