I am so excited to see these wonderful materials in the classroom for my students. The overall goal of this project is to design a space for them to learn creatively, collaboratively, and comfortably. All too often, I observe learning in schools that just seems cold, boring, and uninviting. The goal of this project is to get students OUT of a traditional desk/paper/pencil setting and engaged with one another in meaningful work. In order to do this, a room must be conducive to movement, creative seating, optimal organization, and cutting edge integrated technology...all of which will be funded through this project! So how are the items in my project helping to do this? First of all, I've included many platforms such as rugs to anchor in new seating options and get students out of desks. I have also included many "home" building items such as decor, alternative lighting, plants, and organizational items to make my students feel like they are, indeed, at home. This is so important because many of these students come from little, and have never been able to be "proud" of a gorgeous, clean, and comfortable home environment. Finally, the technology pointer will allow me to interact with my students in all of these new and inviting spaces and seating arrangements while still moving my lessons forward at a rigorous pace on the Smartboard. I am excited to see my scholars soar and grow as family in this new space.
