All over the globe, music brings people together. My goal with this project is to infuse my teaching with more high-quality repertoire from many different backgrounds. By sharing authentic multicultural music with my students, I hope to strengthen their understanding of and connection to members of different cultures and the world at large. When children become more knowledgeable about diverse musical heritages and ethnic groups, they naturally develop empathy and compassion. The specific materials I am requesting include genuine world recordings, children's literature, and multicultural teaching resources. As my students listen to new music from across the world, they will delve into inquiry and response regarding varying beliefs, customs, and languages. I am so excited for their creativity to be provoked by literature in the form of beautiful picture books and song stories from various cultures. While they are performing dances, songs, and games from across the globe using the enriching resources from this project, they will also play a part in preserving unique cultural traditions.
