My students are engaged by the Pete the Cat and Pigeon book series. Having these books in our classroom will allow students access to a motivating series that they want to read. Students at a variety of levels of "reading" will all be engaged in these stories because of the repetition and predictability. Some students may be retelling the story, others may be telling the story based on the pictures, while others can read some or all of the words. Due to the high demand for these books, the few books that are currently in our classroom library have been taped and retaped because they are so well loved. Adding more books will allow more students access to practice literacy skills. We also need art supplies to complete projects based on these well known stories. Book based projects cross content areas and include literacy, science, math and social studies.
