I teach at a Title 1 school, most of my students are low income. Even though they come from a low economic status, they are always bright and cheery. They love to learn, read, and make me laugh. A lot of students are emergent readers and enjoy listening to stories on tape because they have not yet developed the ability to blend sounds together to make words, while others are beginning readers and enjoy reading stories to me, as well as listening and reading along with stories. Our focus this year has been literacy, my students have really enjoyed our stations of Read to Self, Read to Someone, and Listening to Reading. Even though some students haven't developed the skills to successfully read, they are able to read the pictures by telling a story from them.
