In an effort to create a "Trauma Informed Classroom," I am looking for large pillows to create a mindfulness corner, a noise machine to provide calming ambient noise, and an aromatherapy diffuser to create stress reducing scents. All other items in this project will also be used to create a trauma informed classroom. My ESL students have come to the United States seeking a life free from things most of us can only imagine: war, bombings, gang violence, poverty, and domestic abuse. The cumulative effects of these events, plus the stress of being a recent immigrant to the United States, contributes to most of my students exhibiting signs of childhood trauma and/or chronic stress. My goal is to create a "Trauma Informed Classroom" that uses research on childhood trauma and its effects on the brain to create a safe space for my students.
