These mp3 players and headphones will be used to allow students to listen to fluent reading. In second grade, many students have heard fluent reading at home, but others do not hear this at home. I have many books on CD, but have no way for the children to listen to them. With mp3 players, more than one student can listen to the story at a time. I have several copies of most of the books, but just need some way for them to listen to them. For struggling readers, it is essential for them to hear fluent reading often. They need to associate someone else reading words that they may not have seen in print before. This is one of the best ways to get students listening. They also have iPads to listen to other stories that are online.
