New desks will give my students a new start. Since Hurricane Harvey destroyed our community, my students have suffered loss at home and at school. With a new set of desks, we will be able to make a fresh start and focus on learning rather than rebuilding. "Harvey" may have stolen our things, but he didn't steal our enthusiasm and our desire to learn. With these specially shaped desks, my students will be able to work collaboratively with more possibilities. Since I teach writing, peer editing is huge part of the writing process. With these new desks, my students will be able to work together with less moving and shuffling to create stories and develop a love for writing. I would love for my students to come back to a classroom full of cheerful, new things they can take pride in using. So many of my students lost everything during Hurricane Harvey and are "making do" with the bare necessities. My desire is that my classroom can be the safe haven for learning, where the worries and stress of rebuilding don't exist.
