When learning to read, all children need to be exposed to books, to be read to, and encouraged to read. Teachers always hope to create a perfect space in their classrooms for their students to WANT to gravitate to and pick up a book and read. Children from poverty are even in greater need of these experiences because they do not grow up being read to or surrounded by books and print due to their severe socioeconomic circumstances. They are behind in learning gains before they even begin. It is my hope to create a classroom library space that they will gravitate to and that will enhance their overall feelings about the literary experience and increase learning gains.
