My students comprised of 3rd-5th graders in the Houston area. These kids are coming from low income families and were greatly affected by the hurricane Harvey. More than 75% of these students are on free / reduced lunch. The kids have different backgrounds, learning styles and a few with learning disabilities. Most of these kids love to learn science using hands on activities and personal science experience (field trips). They are very inquisitive, highly motivated and loved to explore a lot of things. Their interest focuses on science and technology. Since these kids have different learning styles, as teacher, I have to find different ways to enhance their potential as learners. I have to come up with various teaching strategies to tap their interest and choose a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)in the near future. I have been working hard to assist these wonderful kids achieve their goals.
