Learning a foreign language must be a hands-on experience in order to be effective. Currently, students do not have any personal technology to utilize in the classroom. We do not have classroom computers either. I utilize the SMARTboard as much as possible, but this is not sufficient for group projects that include technology. Foreign-language learning includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking. However, we need to do this with 21st century skills. Chromebooks will help us do this! If students had technology means, they could read authentic articles online, write in the foreign language for meaning (essays, blogs, Pen Pals), listen to real Native speakers from distant lands via videos and webcam and speaking (via webcam and recording themselves to improve pronunciation). Chromebooks will help students utilize a new language with skills they can use in college and future careers. The world is their oyster and at their fingertips.... if we have means to technology within our classroom. I want to prepare my students to be real-world and career-ready, which cannot truly occur unless I have access within the classroom.
