I teach two sections of fifth grade students, with approximately 20 students in each class. We live in a very rural community with strong ties to agriculture, religion, and the importance of family. We are blessed to call this area home; however, it does pose some disadvantages. Students have limited background knowledge or experiences with different cultures and urban practices. They love learning about people and places different from themselves, and books are the best way to give them this opportunity.
