My number one goal as a 5th reading teacher is to encourage my students to love to read. What better way to do that than to give them a great book to read? The Texas Bluebonnet Award committees annually choose a master list of children's literature written and published in the United States. The award is designed to meet a wide variety of student interests and to facilitate discussion of literature among elementary students. This project is a request for all 20 books from the 2019-2020 Texas Bluebonnet Award Master list because having the books available in my personal classroom library provides my students with more opportunities to read them whenever they can without having to wait for them to become available at our school library. Providing access to a wide variety of books such as these to students who are reluctant to read or who do not have books to read at home can be life-changing!
My hope is that students will become hooked on these Bluebonnet books and consequently be able to hold positive memories of reading for the rest of their lives.
