My students need a plentiful and diverse library of books so that they can develop a love of reading and excel academically. The majority of my class come from low income homes and neighborhoods. They are not always exposed to or have access to quality literature. EVERY child should have this!
A child's success in third grade is an important predictor for their learning success throughout their school years. It predicts if students will have their choice of top colleges. To get my students on grade level and college ready, I must provide them with the resources to achieve this. It is vital that students are reading a book that is their very own 'just right' reading level. That means that the book is not too easy and not too hard, that they can read the book independently. In order to make sure that every kid has a book that is not only 'just right' but they also enjoy reading, I have chosen a wide range of book, of different reading level and interests. Kids at this age LOVE chapter books and so I have chosen a lot of chapter books. I have picked chapter books that are part of a series to 'hook' student interest so that they want to keep reading. The books I have chosen will ensure that EVERY kid in my class, no matter what their reading level or interest will be able to get their hands on a book that they love to read!
