We are requesting seating for our classroom to supplement the age-old student desk. I have observed other classes with flexible seating and chosen items that will last and promote learning- yoga mats for read-ins and group work, balls for students who need to keep active, stools for students to meet in small groups, and lap boards to accommodate those who like to stand, sit, lie, wiggle, and beyond. My students often work in pairs or groups to help increase their skills through modeling or Socratic discussion, so flexible seating will help us transition quickly between those activities and support my students who need a more active environment to learn.
