Students learning from home, need to feel and be connected to their community. What better way than through a voluntary book club for Native American students throughout the County of Ventura. Books chosen for this reading club will encourage students to think about what it means to be Native American during this time of Social Distancing, answering the open-ended question: Am I Native or Am I...? Connections to other native youth, through this book club, will help students strengthen their cultural identity, understand issues of diversity and justice facing modern-day Native Peoples, and empower them to take action. Self-knowledge and cultural pride are two important assets which have a big impact in a student's school success. Be part of encouraging the Native American youth in Ventura County to graduate from High School, especially in these challenging times!
