Reading is such a powerful skill that opens so many doors for students. In my classroom, books allow students to relate to characters that have experiences similar to their own. They also open the door for social issue discussions that help students process the world around them. These books will allow students to read independently, and in a guided group setting, with books at their level. They will also be able to read books that match their interest, which will increase their engagement with the text. These experiences with text will help students to grow as readers, which will equip them to be successful in their studies and in life.
