Have you ever been in a foreign country where you didn't speak the language, or at a fancy party where you didn't know the proper rules of etiquette? That's what life is like for a child with autism. They know that there are rules and that someone is trying to communicate, but they just don't understand the message. We live in a technology-rich area of California, go to a public elementary school, but attend specialized classes. The general education setting moves too fast, has too many other kids, and doesn't have enough hands-on life-necessary experiences for us. We are bright, creative kids who want to learn, but need a different skill-set than the average kid. Real-world, apply-it-now knowledge is what interests us.
